Saint Faith's is supporting the Walk for Life3.
This annual event raises awareness of the importance of organ donation and collects donations and sponsorship in aid of kidney dialysis machines. For three days, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 5th - 7th July, the walk will start from King Street, Belper at 10.00am and will cover around 15 miles each day. Anyone is welcome to support this great cause by joining in the walk for a few metres or a few miles.
There are currently over 24 million people on the national organ donation register with over 6000 people benefitting from successful transplant surgery last year alone. 96% of us would accept organ donation, if necessary, with less than a third of that number signed up to donate. Three people die every day waiting for a transplant.
Some people require Kidney dialysis several times a week, often traveling considerable distances to hospital-based dialysis units and spending over four hours connected to the machine. Funds received by the ‘Walk for Life 3’ will be used towards a home dialysis unit for someone who finds it almost impossible to travel.
Walk for Life3 is led by Gary Spendlove, Chairman of Royal Derby Hospital Organ Donation who can be contacted on 07970 696486 or by email: email@example.com
