What We Do

Saint Faith’s aims to provide a hub for religious and social life in Belper Lane End and north Belper.  There are three main strands to our activities:

  • Advancing the Christian religion, mainly through worship, prayer and preaching at Saint Faith’s Church and Community Hall, and also by supporting the wider Christian mission in the UK and overseas;
  • Helping to foster local networks and community spirit by organising social events which enable people to meet, get to know each other and have fun;
  • Preserving the history, traditions and landscape of mid-Derbyshire by maintaining Saint Faith’s Church and managing small projects focused on local culture and heritage.

Christian Worship

Saint Faith’s is an ecumenical free church which sees itself as part of the wider church of Christ and is linked to Churches Together in Belper.  Services are held here on the last Sunday of every month at 7.00pm.  Additional services are held to celebrate the major feasts of the Christian calendar such as Easter and Christmas as well as national occasions, for example, Remembrance Day in November.  We also celebrate our patron Saint Faith whose Feast Day is 6th October.

Services are organised by a small group, led by Rod Hawgood who has been a lay preacher for 40 years, but we often welcome visiting preachers and ministers from other churches including Methodist, Pentecostal, Baptist and the Salvation Army.

Everyone is, of course, more than welcome to join our worship.  You can find details of forthcoming services on the Home Page.

Christian Teaching and Exploration

An informal ‘Explorer’ group meets once a month on a Monday evening for discussion and prayer.  It aims to encourage a more personal and conscious relationship with God through prayer and reading of the Bible for understanding, edification and guidance.

Everyone is welcome to join our Explorer meetings.  Dates are published on the Home Page.

Fundraising and Donations

A significant part of the work of the Committee is to ensure that sufficient funds are raised to allow us to keep our building in good repair and gradually enhance its facilities.  To this end, our religious and social events usually include an element of fundraising.

At the same time, we are mindful of the needs of others and reserve up to 10% of our annual income for small donations (maximum £500) to organisations and individuals which further our aims.  If you would like to apply to us for a donation, please contact our Treasurer Rachael Hatchett on 01773 829872 or use the form on the Contact Us page.

We are also interested in helping like-minded organisations to raise funds by offering Saint Faith’s as a venue.  For example, we hosted a MacMillan Coffee Morning in November 2017 which raised nearly £500 for that good cause.

Newsletter

‘Over the Bridge’ is a bi-monthly newsletter for north Belper and Belper Lane End, distributed free to residents.  It provides information about forthcoming events and services at Saint Faith’s, and includes a variety of articles of local interest.  Contributions are always welcome – contact the Editor, Rod Hawgood, by emailing rod.hawgood@gmail.com or by writing to him at 27 Yardley Way, Overlane Park, Belper, DE56 0ES.

Social Events

We aim to organise four or five social events each year.  In 2017 these included a Scarecrow Competition and Cream Tea, a concert by ‘Bel Canto’ male voice chorus, and carol singing at the Blue Bell Inn, Farnah Green.

The Committee is always keen to support more opportunities for our community.  If you have the time and energy to organise a walk, a barbecue, a quiz, or any other good idea, please get in touch with us and we will see what we can do to help.

Keep an eye on our Home Page for information about forthcoming events.

Projects

From time to time, the Association undertakes specific projects in order to preserve or promote particular aspects of life in and around Belper Lane End. To see what we have been doing in the past few years, please have a look at the Projects page.

If you have project which could benefit from the support of the group, we would be happy to consider it.  In the first instance, contact any committee member or our secretary Betty Cowan on 01773 822774 or use the form on the Contact Us page.

Venue

We are keen to develop Saint Faith’s as a venue for hire and have been working hard to ensure that essential amenities are provided.  Most recently, we have installed a toilet with disabled access and a small kitchen facility.  Future plans include the replacement of some of the existing pews with chairs so that seating arrangements are more flexible.  For more information, please contact our Treasurer Rachael Hatchett on 01773 829872, or use the form on the Contact Us page.
